About Temple Bar...
Ireland's beautiful capital, Dublin, is also the country's cultural and historical heart. One of its liveliest neighborhoods, Temple Bar, has become a hotspot for both tourists and locals seeking vibrant nightlife and adventurous shopping. It is located south of the river Liffey, bounded by Dame Street, Westmoreland Street and Fishamble Street, the oldest street in Dublin.
Temple Bar suffered a decline in the 19th and 20 th centuries, becoming a run-down, disreputable district by the 1960s. Its derelict buildings were leased cheaply to local artists, gallery owners and shopkeepers, and in the 1980s, Temple Bar was revitalized as the city's cultural quarter. Today, its medieval cobbled streets are home to many popular pubs, shops and attractions. Two main squares, Meetinghouse Square and Temple Bar Square, feature many of the city's exciting cultural events and festivals.
Many famed cultural institutions are located here, such as the Irish Photography Centre, the Irish Film Institute, the Project Arts Centre and numerous art galleries. The music scene is thriving here as well, with the Temple Bar Music Centre, the dynamic music venue The Button Factory and world-class recording studios.
For those looking for a great spot for pub grub, the famous Temple Bar Pub, established in 1840, is always a draw for tourists seeking the unique Celtic character. It features live traditional Irish music and a spirited outdoor beer garden -- the perfect setting to enjoy that pint of Guinness and fresh Dublin Bay Oysters.
Temple Bar Food Market is a great place to try delectable treats such as Irish meats and freshly baked breads. The Old City, a region of Temple Bar with a more calming atmosphere, is the ideal spot to sip an Irish coffee at an outdoor café, observe historic architecture and visit the Cow's Lane Market, a paradise for the fashionista looking for the best in handmade Irish fashion, vintage crafts, art and design.
